Kensett Fire Department is a rural fire department in Northern Iowa about 20 miles north of Mason City, Iowa. The City of Kensett has approximately 300 residents and the outlying areas served by the department contains another 300 residents. The service area is approximately 13 miles east to west by 4 miles north to south and includes part in Interstate 35. The department has one pumper, one pumper/tanker one tanker and a brush/rescue truck which responds to medical emergencies. We have 15 members 7 of whom are Certified EMR's and one registered nurse. All of the firefighters are certified as Firefighter 1. In an average year, we respond to about 35 calls, half of which are medical. We also respond to several accidents each winter on I 35. We are radio dispatched by Worth County and have mutual aid agreements with all other departments in the county.
